When in the Dordogne in April I visited one of the many grottoes that exist in the region. In fact the place is riddled with them like the holes in a piece of Emmenthal cheese. Personally I think if you live in the Dordogne and don't have a grotto you are nowhere socially. To come to the point: generally grottoes open to the public have gift shops and one of the sales lines these places have is an assortment of minerals, pretty stones. At one I found a piece of Labradorite which, after much consideration, I deduced came not from the grotto where I then was but from Labrador. No, not from a labrador. It would have been unlikely that a labrador could produce the item below which weighs nearly three and a half pounds, is 6" high, 4.5" wide and 1.5" thick. So the chunk of mineral below has nothing to do with the Dordogne but is so lovely that I had to have it for my own. You, dear readers, are welcome to look at it. This is my present for you. An absolutely free look.

Welcome
This is a collection of written pieces that comes from things I’ve thought and experienced; occasionally they are illustrated with photos that I’ve taken. They are here because I want people to enjoy them. This is a sort of print performance and as with other kinds of performance it is a meaningless exercise without an audience. So be my audience ...
