Welcome

This is a collection of written pieces that comes from things I’ve thought and experienced; occasionally they are illustrated with photos that I’ve taken. They are here because I want people to enjoy them. This is a sort of print performance and as with other kinds of performance it is a meaningless exercise without an audience. So be my audience ...

POEM - CHRISTMAS TIME IN THE WEST INDIES

You really have to read this poem out loud to bring it out of itself. The clue to how you should read it is given in the last line. Just get the rhythm and bounce along with it.

CHRISTMAS TIME IN THE WEST INDIES
I’ve bought me Mam a pretty frock.
Me wife helped me to choose it so it won’t come as a shock.
There’s white canvas shoes for me dear old Dad
They’re sure to be the best shoes that he’s ever had.
There’s perfume for me Auntie Mae
And a set of reggae CDs for me Uncle Ray.
Their kids get money in generous amounts
Cos it’s not the thought – with them it’s the cash that counts
I got a lovely necklace for my wife
And for my eldest son a Swiss Army knife.
My youngest boy gets rugby boots
And for myself I got a box of nice cheroots.
Of my Christmas list I’ve now given you de essence
And what I’m doing now is rapping de presents.
