The most recent edition of The Spectator has its Diary page contributed by Clive James, who will be known to most Brits and all Aussies (one hopes), as an intellectual, a humorist and, above all, a poet of boundless imagination and talent. In this latest piece he reveals that he is fighting leukaemia and makes it pretty clear that he is not winning. I have just bought a copy of his latest collection of poems, called 'Nefertiti in the Flak Tower' and as I read I shall think of this great man and do the nearest thing I ever do that approximates to prayer.
