THE COMPROMISE a play for the theatre by Keith Diggle

This play is a fictional account of how, in 1729,  a picture of Oundle, the small town in Northamptonshire (they would have it as Cambridgeshire) was not produced for its residents.  The picture was drawn and was delivered - but in such a way that it required a magnifying glass to see it. Much of the story is true, however, the brothers Samuel and Nathaniel Buck of London, did visit the town some time in the Spring of that year and did produce a drawing that was destined for engraving and sale but, due to unfortunate circumstances, certain pressures were brought to bear and they were forced to ... compromise.
